SINGLE TOOTH IMPLANT: BEFORE & AFTER

WHAT IS A SINGLE TOOTH IMPLANT?

Also known as an implanted crown, a single tooth implant provides stability and prevents deterioration of the jawbone. Single tooth implants look and feel like natural teeth and so restore the form and function of the missing tooth.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF SINGLE TOOTH IMPLANTS?

While a single missing tooth may not seem like a big deal to some, the lost tooth root can lead to the deterioration of the jawbone and cause problems with other teeth. A single tooth dental implant prevents this deterioration and further problems while also improving the appearance of the smile and making it easier to speak and chew.

Single tooth implants provide the following benefits and produce the following results:

  • Preserves bone socket

  • Preserves surrounding bone

  • Improves appearance of smile

  • Improves chewing and speaking

HOW IS AN SINGLE TOOTH IMPLANT PLACED?

Like other dental implant procedures, single tooth implants require time and multiple visits to produce optimal results.

The first step in placing a single tooth implant is to put the screw that will replace the tooth root into the jawbone, which will be covered by a temporary crown. Once the implanted screw is in place, the implant is given 2 – 6 months to fully bond with the bone and tissue for the most secure anchor. Once the implant is ready, the temporary crown is removed and the custom-made crown is attached to the dental implant. A well-made crown easily blends in with natural teeth and restores the form and function of your teeth as well as the appearance of your smile.

HOW DO YOU CARE FOR SINGLE TOOTH IMPLANTS?

Caring for a single tooth implant is much like caring for your natural teeth. Continue to maintain a good oral health routine by brushing and flossing your teeth twice a day and visiting your dentist as least twice a year for a dental exam and cleaning. If you smoke, we strongly encourage you to quit after the implant is in place since smoking weakens the bones and may lead to implant failure. You should also avoid chewing on hard foods, including ice and hard candy to avoid breaking the dental crown.
