CBCT Scanner

What is a CBCT?

A CBCT unit is a 3-dimensional Cone Beam Computer Tomography scan of your upper and lower jaws – even when you are not in the office, Dr Steinberg reviews your case, communicates with your restorative dentist and any provider involved in your care, on your behalf.

DFW Implant Team provides advanced technology including a CBCT scanner by Plan Meca

How does it work?

We “capture” the computerized images of the jaw and other facial features.  Dr. Steinberg has treatment planned over 22,000 scans in the past 10 years.  This allows the doctor to evaluate and discuss your entire dental status to save time and money.  He has found that seeing the “big picture” provides you with ease of mind before treatment begins.  Dr. Steinberg operates with as few surprises as possible in your treatment and the CBCT is one tool he utilizes to accomplish that goal.  It’s like mapping your trip before you get on the road…it saves time, energy, and costs.

How long does it take to scan and see my CBCT?

The scan takes 2-3 minutes and another 3-4 minutes to appear on the computer. The CBCT is in our office. Dr. Steinberg reviews your scan with you and determines if he will need to spend more time to make decisions that day.  If he feels a more comprehensive evaluation is needed, you will return for a thorough review.

Is a CBCT required with dental implants?

Yes.  The amount of valuable information you and Dr Steinberg gain from seeing your bone and tooth anatomy prior to treatment allows for a more seamless surgery with more predictable outcomes for you.

Intra-Oral Scanner

What is an Intra-Oral Scanner?

Our intra-oral scanner is a device used to create impressions digitally. With this technology, the process is much faster, and you will not have to deal with the “goo” of impression material and a gag reflex from a mouth full of trays.  Dr. Steinberg can send your scan to the lab, your restorative dentist, and into the computer to interface with your CBCT to esthetically design your case.

How long does it take?

It usually takes a few minutes and then is imported into your CBCT scan. The technology we use has been chosen for several reasons:

  • comfort for you, the patient

  • predictability of your treatment

  • ability to share with your additional healthcare provides, especially your restorative doctor

  • allows Dr. Steinberg to diagnose problems that are occurring or could occur

  • allows you, the patient, to understand and see what the doctor sees
