WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF AN IMPLANT BRIDGE?

An implant bridge provides a variety of benefits and can prove to be a significant improvement over traditional dentures. Implant-supported bridges, also known as fixed bridges or partial implants, provide a long lasting solution for missing teeth without the hassle of a removable bridge. An implant bridge looks and feels like natural teeth without any special care so chewing, speaking, and appearance can be greatly improved.

Some of the additional and ongoing benefits to an implant bridge provided by Dr. Donald Steinberg and his staff at DFW Implant Team include:

  • To replace several missing teeth

  • To restore appearance and function

  • For a long lasting solution

  • To blend with the natural teeth

HOW IS AN IMPLANT BRIDGE PLACED?

Placing an implant bridge requires multiple visits. On the treatment visit, the patient will be given local anesthesia to numb the areas of the mouth being worked on as the dental implants are attached to the jawbone. Instead of filing down teeth, 2 implants may be able to replace 3 or more teeth. A mold of the teeth will be made so a dental laboratory can create a custom bridge that matches the patient’s natural teeth. Temporary teeth are placed over the dental implants for 2 – 6 months as the implants bond with the bone and tissue. Once the implants are strong enough, the custom bridge is placed by attaching the false teeth to the dental implants.

HOW DO YOU CARE FOR AN IMPLANT BRIDGE?

Dr. Steinberg will give each patient instructions on dealing with any pain after the procedure and long-term care for the implant bridge. Like other dental implants, fixed bridges should be cared for like natural teeth with regular brushing, flossing, and the use of an antibacterial mouthwash. Patients should continue to go to their dentist for regular dental exams and cleanings to keep their implant bridge healthy.
