We provide dental frenectomies at DFW Implant Team for our patients that need to have the fibrous attachment removed that is between the gums and the upper and/or lower lip. Our board-certified periodontist, Dr. Donald Steinberg, can carefully surgically remove this tissue, and suture it closed. Many times a frenectomy needs to be completed in order to make room for cosmetic enhancements, such as braces, or when the patient needs excess gum tissue removed. A frenectomy can be performed on one or both upper and/or lower lips (as the situation requires) to ensure proper tooth position. Dr. Steinberg offers frenectomies for his patients of all ages. Please contact us today for your appointment to consult with our team. We will also accept referrals from your general dentist.
At your first appointment and consultation, Dr. Steinberg will complete an oral examination of your mouth and gums, review your medications, gather your health history, and discuss scheduling the procedure to remove this soft tissue. During a frenectomy, we will perform this minor procedure in our state-of-the-art facility once we have numbed the area, and after the sedation (if required) is in full effect. We will remove the soft tissue by excising it, and closing it with a suture. Please follow all of Dr. Steinberg's aftercare instructions given to you.
We will schedule follow-up appointments with Dr. Steinberg a week after the procedure, and again after 3 weeks to see how the incision site has healed. In recovery at home, please make sure to follow all of the aftercare instructions to avoid complications like infection, excessive bleeding, pain, inflammation, and more. If you have any questions about how to care for your mouth after the frenectomy, or if you are experiencing excessive bleeding, infection, or fever please call our office right away.
Frenectomy Other Considerations
We offer sedation dentistry to our patients at DFW Implant team: nitrous oxide (laughing gas), intravenous, and oral conscious sedation. If it would make you or your child more comfortable to have this procedure with one of our sedation options, please ask about this service during your consultation.
