At DFW Implant Team in Bedford, TX, our board-certified periodontist, Dr. Donald Steinberg and his surgical staff members, will go over all of your sedation options, including oral-conscious sedation. This is a moderate sedative you will take in pill form an hour before your scheduled procedure or treatment at our office. While some people do not know about sedation dentistry, many of our patients prefer this type of sedation because it is easy to administer and works well. All sedated patients will need a friend or relative to drive them home after the procedure. Please don't delay your treatment! Ask us about all of our sedation methods when you call to make your first appointment.
When you are induced into a relaxed, serene, and still conscious state, you will probably not even stress about injections of anesthetic before the surgery or even care when the treatment begins. By taking this small pill, you will be comfortable and tranquil throughout your appointment, and for several hours after you return home. It is mandatory for our sedation patients to have a ride home with a trusted friend or a family member for after the appointment. The sedation may take 2 – 6 hours to wear off, and we want you to make it home safely.
Please keep in mind that every patient will have their own variation of medication type and amount of sedation for their procedure. The length of their procedure also plays a role in deciding which sedation technique is best. If at any time you have a question or are experiencing severe side effects from the sedation, please call our office. We have had patients in the past report to feeling nauseous after the medication.
